About the Mud Connector
The Mud Connector, also referred to as TMC, was created in the fall of 1995 by Andrew Cowan with the intention of providing a consistently updated mudlist including descriptions for each of the MUDs as well as the standard connection information found in existing mudlists of the period. Popular mudlists of the time, such as Doran's Mudlist (archived copy), were typically provided in text format and were made available by email and postings to Usenet newsgroups such as rec.games.mud.
The site was developed and initially hosted on the graduate assistant's Linux box at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where Andrew was completing post-graduate work in the Mathematics and Computer-Science program and teaching college Algebra. Shortly after the website was launched it was believed lost due to a fatal hard drive crash. Several months after the site went down a copy of the html source was discovered in a Netscape cache on one of the University's computers. The website was restored and promotions and requests for mud submissions continued on Usenet newsgroups.
The Mud Connector has grown over the years and currently provides [an error occurred while processing this directive] text mud listings. TMC currently provides a search engine for accessing the mudlist data, resources for muds and gaming, discussion forums, player submitted mud reviews, staff reviews and a number of other areas useful for mud enthusiasts.
